Your assignment for today will be to create a comic using the Pixton website.
Here is what you will need to do: 

The Assignment Requirements:
1 Comic about Theogony
  • 6 Boxes
  • Tell the Story of The Origins of the Gods and of The Earth, and The Olympian Gods overthrow the Titans (Pick the most important 7 events)
  • A relevant quote from the text in each box
  • Illustrations that make sense to the reading and what you are summarizing
  • This means no skyscrapers, or aliens, or things that are not logical.
  • 1 Comic about Genesis
Telling the story from beginning to end selecting the 7 most important events

  • If there’s three, you have to do a comic for a third myth of your choice

Hesiod Theogongy

Please answer the following questions in your notes:
  1. Why do you suppose the Greeks thought that each these four powers or beings (Chaos, Gaia, Tartaros, Eros) were necessary at the beginning of creation? 
  2. Have you ever seen the sky mating with the earth? What events in nature could account for this image of mating? 
  3. Why do the Greeks have so many Gods? 
  4. What do you think are the main messages of each creation story? 
  5. Comment on the symbolism of Kronos' deed. Do you think Uranus deserves his punishment? 
  6. Why do you suppose the gods are allowed to commit incest (Rhea and Kronos, Zeus and Hera) but men cannot? 
  7. Name some reasons why Kronos might want to swallow his children as they are born. 
  8. Why should Zeus be the god most worthy of respect and worship? What do you think of him? Why do you suppose Hesiod likes him so much? What powers do you think Zeus represents?

Module

Today you will be demonstrating your understanding of the two readings (Hopi: Spider Woman & Boshongo (Bantu): Bumba's Creation) You and a partner need to create two AVID one-pagers.  One for the Hopi Myth and one for The Boshongo Myth.  You should have already begun the Hopi piece, today you will finish each of these pieces.

These should both be in the same document.  Page one is The Hopi Myth, Page two is the Boshongo Myth.  These one pagers are a chance for you to be creative; make your piece interesting. Just make sure it is one per page.

One-Pager Requirements

  • At least three important quotes (cited correctly)
  • At least three images
  • A paragraph explanation
    • For each of the myths explain your initial reaction to the myth, identifying important elements of the myth, connections you see to other myths, how these myths connect to your myths
  • No more than one page for each
  • Include the title of the piece and the author somewhere on the page.
  • Include your names in the footer (in size 7 font)

PLEASE MAKE SURE THE DOCUMENT IS IN YOUR DRIVE FOLDER FOR THIS CLASS.  IF IT IS NOT, I CANNOT SEE IT AND YOU DO NOT GET CREDIT.

    • Paragraph explaining your reactions to the Hopi: Spider woman creation myth, identifying important elements of creation myth, how it relates to your beliefs.
      • Think of this like mini-essay (grammar,spelling,mechanics matter).
